LYDIA. Sardis. Antoninus Pius, 138-161. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 29 mm, 14.76 g, 6 h), uncertain strategos and uncertain proconsul. [...] ΑΙΛΙΟС ΑΝΤΩΝЄΙΝΟС Bare head of Antoninus Pius to right. Rev. ΕΠI CTPA I-[EP... ΕΠI ANΘY... CA]PΔIANΩN Demeter standing facing, veiled and head to left, thrusting lighted torch into mouth of open chasm; above chasm, serpent coiling right. RPC IV online 1424. Very rare, apparently the third recorded example, none of which allows a complete reading of the legends. Earthen deposits and some roughness, otherwise, good fine.
